Youngstown ...
Before leaving Youngstown, I had to try the shot because this is a major activity such as golf or football on TV.
Here is a quick summary of answers to many questions to Daniel and Missy (Vallourec colleagues).
1. Each state has its own legislation for weapons
2. There is no need for a permit to buy a gun in hand you need a permit to carry !
3. To obtain a permit you must live in the state, complete a safety course and be 21 years
4. The age limit is 21 years for selling guns (handgun) but drops to 18 for other firearms!
5. The weapons are allowed in public places unless otherwise stated (eg banks)
6. The weapon must be hidden
The main reason Daniel and Missy to bring a weapon to protect themselves alone facing a danger to which they would not have time to call the police. They never had to leave.
We started shoot a gun (the model used by the police) and then with a small telescope size. At 50 m, we get a very good shooting accuracy (of the order of cm inexperienced!). I was not too comfortable on the subject but I actually found it very entertaining and I spent some time
. It's a lot of concentration and confidence.
The lesson I draw is that all is well as holders of weapons remain under the control of their actions. It's the American spirit that emerges in the idea of freedom and individual responsibility. We must not tell an American that carrying a weapon is dangerous because he knows it and is sufficiently endowed with common sense to be master of a situation where he would have to use it ...
