Experience the heart of American communitarianism

U.S. religious country, if any. With the many churches in the Bible Belt, the Mormons in Utah, the Quakers in upstate New York, there are also the Amish in Pennsylvania. The idea was launched to spend a weekend!
Department Lancaster County, for two days completely anachronistic.

The Amish are a Protestant community who decided to live folded in on itself, to escape persecution resulting from the Reformation. Originally Swiss-German-Alsace, they arrived in the seventeenth century in the United States, to find their promised land. Hence the name Strasburg for a village that we visited! So in theory they are refusing all contact with the outside world, living without leaving their community, are very religious ... For example, they do not use electricity from the outside world, children are in their own schools. They are almost exclusively farmers, but when you approach a little closer, we realize the wire which they walk constantly.

They do not use electricity from the outside world but produce them with diesel and propane, have solar panels, batteries, thus have fridges ... The moral is safe because no wire connecting them to the outside world. Following the same logic, they have no television, no radio, no car, but instead of buggies "for not being able to move very far and thus do not break the link with the family / community." These buggies were the highlight of our trip! County roads are widened, allowing the Amish to drive without getting doubled in all directions by car. Their clothes are made by the mother only in solid colors, men wear straw hats and women a kind of white cape.

A little trick to find an Amish home: "When the laundry drying on a wire outside the house." What seems normal here in France is "tourism" is still a difference between living American and French. In the realm of the dryer, it is difficult to find a clothes dryer!

We slept Saturday night in a guest house, run by the Amish "light", as they are intouch with the outside world, and they have electricity in this part of the house ... Similarly, they use a phone in the garden, have a bank account. There was also able to connect the computer to watch the movie Witness (to remain in the atmosphere), but total failure of this mission, a dark story of codecs ...

But we've been somewhat embarrassed by talking to the grandfather. He seemed very disillusioned over the new generation that uses mobile phones for example. It must be said that young people, before deciding to be baptized and to return to the community, have the opportunity to see the "real world" driving a car, dress as in 2008. Then they decide whether to return to the community, either to live in the outside world. But almost 95% of Amish youth remain, since they do not know the outside world, and would then cut ties with their families ...

Similarly, on Sunday morning, the family received the community to act in the barn (160 people, and full of buggies). We then parked the car so they are not visible from the road ... We then wondered if this family was not just on the fringes of the community, since not living according to their strict guidelines.

Then, for themselves back into the swing of real life, towards Hershey to visit the chocolate factory the great American brand! Disneyland atmosphere a little! "

What Is Lipomas More Condition_symptoms

Tampa Bay with Nadia Milka &!

Yes! While Ben is under the snow, Nadia and I are found in the rain and wind in Tampa Bay in western Florida. Florida is a bit like you do not see often! What luck!

Friday evening, we visited Ybor, Tampa's trendy atmosphere in Latin. Tampa was a great center of cigar production which was used by Italian immigrants and Cuban.

Saturday, the rain has stopped but not the wind, That did not stop for a road trip south. Program, visit Sarasota with picnic on the marina. Then towards the land where the flora and fauna change in a few miles, we leave the palm trees to find a landscape style bayou. Myakka River State Park welcomes us but we can not make the air boat to Tom Sawyer.

Sunday we buffet lunch on the deck of the Holiday Inn where Nadia lived for his mission. The sun and heat are almost at the rendezvous. We're off to the most beautiful beaches in the United States classified by Dr. Beach in 2005 -> Fort De Soto Park. The weekend ends with a visit to the city of St Petersburg and its famous Pier.

A final sunset and the weekend is already over ... Thank you to Nadia and Milka!

Ohio under the snow and

He stayed in Ohio to begin the season of parachute, the weather has decided otherwise. Twenty cm good powder fell between Friday and Saturday ... I started Sunday in a photo safari in the Mill Creek Park Youngstown under a sun that was beginning to penetrate. The photos are reworked a little, sometimes too ... Finally, you can leave comments to tell me what you think.

While I try to take care in Youngstown, Candice is in Tampa, Florida where she joined Nadia (aka Milka addicted).
Hugs to all - Ben

Ski Trip Weekend at DC Museum

We took a bit of a delay in updating the blog ... so here's the summary of 2 denier weekend of February.

Candice wanted to ski so she did not too hard to convince me! We went to Seven Springs, a resort in Pennsylvania 2-hour drive from Youngstown and 3h Washington. ( qlques photos)
The resort was amazing with some good spots to take some speed bumps and a few parks, jumps and rails ... This is not the Alps but it was already nice to ski on artificial snow that only the Americans know so well ...
Good weather, beautiful runs very good day spent with 3 people from the embassy, the "Sophie", Fwainçois, and Aude my college LIFE Vallourec.
The story also says that Candice has learned to change a car wheel ... It can be useful ...

After a week cold and snowy and I'm then left Friday night to join Candice Washington for a weekend spent visiting museums and the preparation of the trip to Alaska in May

We visited the museum include an archive of the original three most important documents of the United States: the Declaration of Independence July 4, 1776, the constitution consists of the 10 founding papers and the declaration of rights .
Among the first 10 amendments to the constitution ratified in 1788 include freedom of press, speech and religion. Since the text has evolved and is composed of 27 amendments which abolished slavery (# 13 in 1865), the prohibition of alcohol (# 18 in 1919), the abolition of the prohibition of alcohol (# 21 in 1933).
I confess to never having read the French constitution, but the reading of the U.S. is quite simple and understandable. For fans (or Sciences Po DC wandering on this blog) Click here. In
photos you will see ... the Watergate Hotel, the Kennedy Center (their operations) and new glasses Candice ;-)

Preparation of Alaska is almost finalized. All reservations are made or almost ... we need to polish up the final details, buy some equipment and also to prepare physically ....

Voili voilou ... Biz to all U.S.
